Centre Pompidou - Metz
Welcome to our new website. You’ll find everything you want to know about the Centre Pompidou-Metz: how it all began, its architecture, its grand opening with the exhibition entitled “Masterpieces?” and more. The Centre Pompidou-Metz will be a large hexagonal structure with three galleries running through the building. A central spire will reach up 77 metres, alluding to the 1977 opening date of the original Centre Pompidou. Viewed as a whole, the architecture evokes a vast marquee surrounded by a square and garden.
The Centre Pompidou-Metz, was created with these twin regional and European ambitions in mind. When its doors open in 2010, it will be France’s first example of cultural decentralisation organised by a national establishment. The Centre Pompidou-Metz will not be a mere replica of the Centre Pompidou, but a projection of it, according to the national institution’s president Alain Seban. Musée d'Orsay: Home
The national museum of the Musée d'Orsay opened to the public on 9 December 1986 to show the great diversity of artistic creation in the western world between 1848 and 1914. It was formed with the national collections coming mainly from three establishments: from the Louvre museum, for the works of artists born after 1820 or coming to the fore during the Second Republic; from the Musée du Jeu de Paume, which since 1947 had been devoted to Impressionism; and lastly from the National Museum of Modern Art, which, when it moved in 1976 to the Centre Georges Pompidou, only kept works of artists born after 1870.
